Ole Miss and Mississippi State are ready to close out the 2025 regular season, which means it’s almost time for the Egg Bowl. The rivalry game is a Thanksgiving weekend staple, landing on Black Friday this year.

The Rebels and Bulldogs have experienced drastically different seasons. Ole Miss enters the game 10-1, only blemished by a loss on the road at Georgia. Mississippi State’s season has been rather up-and-down. MSU is 5-6 on the year, needing to pull off the big upset to secure bowl eligibility.

The biggest storyline entering the game, though, doesn’t involve anyone playing in the game. All eyes are on Lane Kiffin, as he is set to announce his future with the program Saturday after the game. Kiffin is the established top target in the coaching searchs for Florida and LSU.

Kiffin’s uncertain future could be a big distraction for the Rebels. Previewing the game, ESPN’s Greg McElroy said that Ole Miss should cruise to an easy victory as long as it can stay focused on the task at hand.

“I’m taking Ole Miss in the game,” McElroy said on Always College Football. “If you want to beat the Rebs, you’ve got to stop the run. I’m not confident that Mississippi State can do it, not with what I’ve seen from them defensively in the last couple weeks.

“I think Ole Miss will win this game as long as they’re focused. If they’re not, and that focus starts to drift, that’s how it becomes competitive. I don’t think it will. I think the Rebels handle business and punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff.”

The game is set for a noon ET/11 a.m. CT kickoff from Davis-Wade Stadium in Starkville and will air on ABC.
