Greg McElroy and Sam Acho have taken on the popular offseason topic across the SEC: Which is the third-best team in the SEC behind Alabama and Georgia?

The ESPN analysts discussed it on a recent episode of ESPN’s “College Football Live.”

“It’s Texas A&M, and some people, it’s open for interpretation, a lot of people say, ‘Who’s going to have the third-best record, or whatever it may be,'” McElroy said. “I go based on how I think they fare on a neutral field against everyone else in the league, and I look at this team, the talent that Jimbo Fisher’s been able to assemble the last couple of years, the roster has depth and quality across the board.”

McElroy admitted that the Aggies have question marks, but overall, Texas A&M has a younger player and a hungrier player overall.

Acho chose Kentucky in part because of the Wildcats’ 6-0 start last season. Acho also acknowledged that Chris Rodriguez will be out to start the season, but once he returns, UK can get to a 9- or 10-win season.

ESPN’s Football Power Index has pegged Kentucky with a 6% chance to reach Atlanta and the SEC Championship game, followed by LSU at 5%, both a dramatic dropoff from Alabama (87%) and Georgia (90%).
