Gus Malzahn and Bruce Pearl overlapped for a few years at Auburn before Malzahn was fired as the head football coach and headed to UCF.
But, Malzahn and Pearl are still good friends, and it’s clear Malzahn keeps tabs on his former Auburn colleague.
After Pearl and the Tigers clinched the outright SEC regular-season title on Saturday, Malzahn took to Twitter to congratulate Pearl and throw his support behind him for National Coach of the Year:
Congrats to my good friend @coachbrucepearl on another SEC Championship! It’s time for Bruce to be the National Coach of the Year!! https://t.co/1gEdbq8Vor

Can the Tigers do what Alabama did last year and win both the regular-season and tournament titles in the SEC?
We’ll find out starting Wednesday in Tampa. Auburn, as the No. 1 seed, won’t have to play until the quarterfinals on Friday against the winner of the second-round game between No. 8 seed Texas A&M and No. 9 seed Florida.
