Gus Malzahn may do his coaching at Auburn these days, but the Tigers’ head coach grew up in Arkansas, becoming a top high school coach in the state before moving to the college ranks.

He coached a year at Arkansas State in 2012, too, before moving on to Auburn to take that job.

So, after being inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame this week, Malzahn released a statement expressing his gratitude for the honor:

Rumors have swirled in years past about Malzahn potentially returning home to coach the Arkansas Razorbacks, but nothing has ever come of those rumors.

We’ll see if he ever makes his way back to Arkansas, but for now, he’s entrenched at Auburn.
