Gus Malzahn can add a prestigious honor to his resume.

The Auburn head coach is going into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. An alumnus of Arkansas and Henderson State, Malzahn has been successful as a head coach at the high school and college levels.

Malzahn first got into coaching at Hughes High School in Hughes, Arkansas as the team’s defensive coordinator in 1991. He became head coach in 1992 and took Hughes to the state championship in 1994. Malzahn’s success at Hughes got him the head coaching job at Shiloh Christian School. He led the program to back-to-back championships in 1998 and ’99. He then led Springdale High School to two championship-game appearances over a five-year period, including a state championship win in 2005.

Malzahn made the jump to the college ranks joining Houston Nutt’s Arkansas staff in December 2005. The Razorbacks won the SEC West in 2006. Malzahn left after the season to join friend Todd Graham at Tulsa as the Golden Hurricane’s offensive coordinator. In 2010, Malzahn joined Gene Chizik’s Auburn staff as offensive coordinator. Malzahn called the plays that led to Cam Newton’s Heisman Trophy-winning season en route to a Tigers BCS national championship. Malzahn was head coach at Arkansas State in 2012, leading the Red Wolves to a 9-3 record and Sun Belt title. He returned to Auburn in 2013 as head coach, guiding the Tigers to an SEC championship and appearance in the final BCS championship game. Malzahn received SEC and national Coach of the Year honors. The Tigers won the SEC West again in 2017. Malzahn is 62-31 in seven seasons at Auburn and 71-34 overall as a college head coach.
