LSU didn’t see that one coming.

Auburn just beat LSU 48-11, giving Gus Malzahn’s program its biggest win in the history of this series.

Entering the game, Ed Orgeron’s program was a slight favorite to win the game after destroying South Carolina last weekend, but reality set in for true freshman QB T.J. Finley and it led to a huge win for Auburn.

According to Gus Malzahn, that was the plan all along.

Malzahn on the defensive gameplan for stopping LSU:

“What it was was stop the run. Stop the run, make them one-dimensional, we could pin our ears back and get after a true freshman quarterback on the road. This is one of the toughest places, traditionally, to play in college football. So really, that was our plan, simple as that… We needed to stop the run, make them one-dimensional, get after the rookie quarterback and take some shots. That was really the gameplan in a nutshell.”

LSU rushed the ball 27 times and got just 32 yards on the ground.

Malzahn on Auburn winning the third quarter:

“I think we played our best game. They are defending national champs. They played really well the last two weeks. To dismantle them like we did, I think it says a lot about our overall team, not just the third quarter. But I think we played four quarters, 60 minutes, is what we did and that’s what we’ve been talking about every game. We did that today.”

Malzahn on people that say Auburn didn’t earn two wins this year and on getting a big win to prove the team’s doubters wrong:

“When the whistle blows, you stop, alright? I feel like we earned both those victories so we didn’t feel (that Auburn didn’t earn the Arkansas and Ole Miss wins). Other media may have said but today, it was good to have a game really under control midway through the third quarter.”

Next week, Auburn is on a bye.
