Gus Malzahn on the ‘biggest disappointing thing’ following loss to LSU

The Auburn Tigers lost its 10th straight game in Death Valley to LSU Saturday 23-20.

Auburn’s elite defense kept the team in the game, but in the end, the offensive struggles were too much. Derrick Brown, Marlon Davidson and company hit Joe Burrow more Saturday that he’s been hit all season, but the Tigers signal caller bounced back strong. Burrow threw 321 yards and one touchdown in the win over Auburn.

Auburn’s offense, on the other hand, couldn’t get out of its own way at times. The noise cause havoc for the offense, and Bo Nix never could get in any sort of rhythm in the passing game. Nix completed just 15-of-35 passes for 157 yards and one touchdown.

However, the most disappointing aspect of the loss to LSU was the penalties, according to Gus Malzahn.

“When you have that many penalties, you’re not going to beat anybody that’s a good team on the road,” Malzahn said. “That’s probably the biggest disappointing thing for me. Anytime that happens, that’s coaching. That’s me. I’ve got to do a better job, obviously, with the discipline of the penalties.

“I’m hurting for our players. I’m hurting for our fans.”

Similarly to playing in The Swamp earlier this season, Auburn’s penalties certainly didn’t help things. The Tigers committed just nine penalties against UF compared to 15 against LSU.

The loud environments certainly created some chaos for Auburn’s offense.
