Mississippi State landed commit number eight Tuesday from a familiar face — four-star in-state prospect Marcus Murphy. This good news for the MSU program comes on the heels of landing a commitment from linebacker Jett Johnson Monday night. Murphy, a native of West Point, Miss., was originally committed to Mississippi State but decommitted in early January as the college offers began to pile up for the Magnolia State native.

Here’s the statement Murphy released on Twitter Tuesday afternoon, announcing his decision to rejoin MSU’s 2018 class:

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Murphy is a four-star recruit, the state’s No. 2 overall prospect and the No. 10 athlete in the nation, according to 247Sports. He currently holds scholarship offers from Ole Miss, Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, Stanford among many others.

Check out Murphy’s highlight reel here to get an idea of how MSU head coach Dan Mullen could find ways to use the talented athlete for his program. Which side of the ball do you think he winds up playing in Starkville?
