Oddsmaker Danny Sheridan said in a Thursday interview on Mobile, Ala., radio station WNSP-FM 105.5’s “The Opening Kickoff” that he would have No. 2 Alabama as a seven-point favorite over No. 1 Georgia if the teams played today.
However, Sheridan said, that point spread is down from a couple weeks ago, according to a report from AL.com.
“They would be a seven-point favorite,” he said of the Crimson Tide. “A couple of weeks ago, I would’ve said 10. I’d say Alabama would be a six- or seven-point favorite.
“They’d have a tough time because they can’t defend the pass.”
While Alabama leads the SEC in total defense, it is fourth in the conference against the pass. Still, the Tide is only allowing 168 yards per game through the air, which isn’t awful by any means.
Sheridan said pretty much the same thing in regards to Alabama’s annual Iron Bowl game vs. Auburn.
“They are going to have a tough time against Auburn,” Sheridan explained. “It would be a 10 (points) against Auburn because they can’t defend the pass.”
Sheridan also reportedly noted that Alabama will have a “tougher time than expected” when it travels to Starkville to face Mississippi State on Saturday.
