Hendon Hooker is well-versed in SEC history, and the Tennessee quarterback paid homage on Saturday in the post-game following the win over LS with an incredible gesture.

Hooker wore a vintage Condredge Holloway T-shirt to the podium to speak with the media after the win in Baton Rouge. Holloway was the first black player to start at quarterback in the SEC. Also on the T-shirt was Holloway’s nickname, the “Artful Dodger.” At the end of Holloway’s senior year in 1974, he was Tennessee’s all-time leader in total offense (4,068 yards) and lowest interception percentage by a passer (2.9, 12 in 407 attempts), according to his Tennessee bio.

Hooker on Saturday had a huge day and went 17-for-27 passing for 239 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed 10 times for 56 yards, including a 26-yard run.

Hooker and the Vols piled up 502 yards on offense.

“We’re just doing what we’re supposed to do,” Hooker told ESPN after the game, and then referred to the road atmosphere in Tiger Stadium. “So we locked in a little bit more. Just encouraging my guys to keep giving their all every down.”
