Holden Staes is back in the transfer portal after spending the 2024 season with Tennessee.

That’s per On3’s Hayes Fawcett, who notes that Staes will have 1 season of eligibility remaining. He began his career at Notre Dame and transferred to Tennessee last offseason.

After playing behind Michael Mayer with the Fighting Irish for a could years, Staes entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season in search of a bigger role. It appeared he found one in Knoxville, but his production was still relatively low in 2024. He caught 15 passes for 174 yards and 1 touchdown for Tennessee this past season.

Miles Kitselman ended up having a larger role in Tennessee’s passing game this season. He caught 22 passes for 301 yards and 4 touchdowns this season, leading all Tennessee tight ends in those categories. Redshirt freshman Ethan Davis also had a role in the offense as he caught 13 passes for 100 yards.

Staes will now look elsewhere for his final season of eligibility. As for the Vols, they’ll be hoping to make a big step forward in 2025. That could include making additions at the tight end position via the transfer portal in the coming weeks.
