Skip Holtz: Jeff Driskel was the ‘scapegoat’ in ‘toxic’ situation at Florida

Louisiana Tech is glad to have Florida quarterback transfer Jeff Driskel.
In his first game, Driskel threw for four touchdowns and rushed for another, leading his team to 62-15 victory, and head coach Skip Holtz has some people talking about his recent comments about Driskel and Florida, according to thenewsstar.com.
“I think down at Florida, it got very toxic for him [Driskel]. He became the scapegoat,” Holtz said. “He became the guy that was tied to losing at Florida as a fan base that does not take very well to losing. It really became a negative situation, which is unfortunate because he’s such a great Christian young man with such great values who is a leader.
“If you ever have a chance to sit down and talk with him, he’s almost too good to be true. He’s exactly the way you’d want to raise your son. I’m really proud of him and really happy for him that he was able to go out, play that way. Our fan base was able to embrace him the way that they did.”
Driskel has all the measurables any coach would dream of in a quarterback, but when the lights came on, he had trouble reaching his potential.
Driskel was 16-6 as a starting quarterback, throwing for 3,411 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career, but his inconsistent play and turnovers hurt in the most crucial of times. In those six losses, the Gators committed a whopping 26 turnovers.
Sometimes it just takes a fresh start for players, coaches and programs, and hopefully Driskel’s time at Louisiana Tech will be an incredible experience.
The following Saturday stat about former and current Florida quarterbacks is interesting, huh?
Will Grier, Treon Harris, Jeff Driskel & Jacoby Brissett last night were a combined 60 for 74, for 850 yds and 10 tds to 0 INT. #GoGators

Why hasn’t anyone tied Auburn’s Jeremy Johnson’s struggles to Will Muschamp, too? I’m kidding, kind of.
