Injured Tennessee LB aims to play against Oklahoma, per report
Injured Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter wants to “go and contribute” for the 14th-ranked Volunteers in Saturday night’s huge SEC showdown at home against No. 18 Oklahoma, according to a report by On3 on Saturday afternoon.
The Vols and Sooners will kick things off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, with both teams trying to avoid that dreaded 3rd loss and keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. The junior Carter wants desperately to be a part of it all, on the field, and according to the On3 report there is optimism that he will dress after missing last week’s victory at Kentucky because of a turf toe injury.
Carter has turf toe on both feet, so this is no minor injury, and though he made the trip to Lexington for last week’s game he was forced to watch from the sidelines. On Saturday night, Carter hopes he won’t just be watching in such a pivotal matchup for the 6-2 Volunteers.
Carter is such a vital piece of Tennessee’s defense. He leads the Vols in tackles this season with 61 total tackles, including 20 solo, and Carter has 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
His return to the lineup would mean everything for Tennessee, especially going up against a high-octane offense like Oklahoma’s, but right now as kickoff approaches on Saturday night his availability is still in question.
