Jackson Arnold will have a fresh start in his college football career this season, as the former Oklahoma quarterback will be the starter for the Auburn Tigers this fall.
Arnold spent 2 seasons in Norman, where he threw for 1,984 yards, 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Last year, he lost his starting job early in the season, but was able to come back and help lead the team to an upset victory over Alabama late in the season that ended the Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff hopes.
Auburn will head to Oklahoma this season on September 20, and Arnold talked at the SEC Media Days about how excited he is for that game.
“It will be a fun game, extremely excited for that one,” Arnold said. “No animosity, whatsoever. I just think it is going to be a really fun atmosphere to go in and play. I really enjoyed playing in that stadium.”
Arnold showed flashes throughout his career at Oklahoma, but just never was able to put it together for an extended period of time. However, he has no ill-will towards the Sooners, saying he just didn’t play well enough during that time.
“I mean, for whatever reason, I just didn’t play good,” Arnold said. “Things happen for a reason. Sometimes don’t work the way out the way its supposed to be. You know, we’re on God’s timing, not our timing. You know, for me, I thought the best decision for me was to move on somewhere else and get a fresh start and go out and do what I know I can with this Auburn squad this year.”
Auburn has some big time playmakers at receiver position in transfer Eric Singleton Jr., to go along with sophomores Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons. If those guys can stay healthy, then Arnold could be set up for a lot of success in his first year at Auburn.
Oklahoma will host Auburn on Sept. 20.
