Jacksonville Jaguars renaming stadium for home opener as part of Trevor Lawrence sponsorship

The Jacksonville Jaguars are shaking things for Sunday’s home opener. The stadium will be called “TrEverBank Stadium” for the clash with the Cleveland Browns, it was announced Thursday in a press release.
EverBank, a Jacksonville-based financial services organization, has held naming rights for the Jaguars’ home stadium since 2010. Thanks to a new partnership with Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, the stadium is being renamed “TrEverBank Stadium” for Sunday’s game.

It’s good to be Lawrence these days. In June, the former Clemson quarterback agreed to a 5-year, $275 million contract extension with $142 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $37.5 million. Lawrence’s contract matched Joe Burrow for the highest annual average in NFL history at the time. Dak Prescott has since taken that title with a $60 million annual salary on his new deal (4 years, $240 million).
The Jaguars hope that a game at “TrEverBank” gets them back on track. Jacksonville fell to the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 in heartbreaking fashion.
According to ESPN Analytics, the Jaguars had a 92.3% chance to win up 17-7 with 2:49 remaining in the 3rd quarter. That was seconds before Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill connected for an 80-yard touchdown. The Dolphins would add 2 field goals in the 4th quarter for a 20-17 come-from-behind victory. Lawrence was 12-of-21 passing for 162 yards and 1 touchdown in the game.
