Houston Texans pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney fired his agent Bus Cook on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Clowney is frustrated by his unresolved status as trade discussions continue, and he’s already met with the Miami Dolphins, who appear to be the frontrunner to land him. By all indications, the Dolphins have a ton of interest in getting Clowney. However, according to the Houston Chronicle, Clowney would prefer to play for a contender like the Philadelphia Eagles or Seattle Seahawks.

Until Clowney signs the franchise tag with the Houston Texans, however, he cannot be traded. Clowney was supposed to have reported to the Texans this week, but that hasn’t happened yet. Furthermore, who knows when it might happen.

Clowney has been the subject of much trade discussion in recent weeks. Texans coach Bill O’Brien hasn’t said much about Clowney’s situation during training camp.

“Until he decides to come in and sign the tender, really the ball’s in his court relative to playing for the Texans and all those things, just like it’s been since the beginning of training camp. He’s a franchise player and so until he comes and signs the tender, really there’s nothing really else to talk about,” O’Brien said this fall.

Clowney can’t be fined for missing time, and that essentially gives him leverage in the situation.
