Jahmyr Gibbs is off the board earlier than expected. The Detroit Lions took the Alabama running back at No. 12 overall on Thursday night.
Out of Dalton (Georgia), Gibbs was a 4-star recruit in the 2020 recruiting class. He picked up scholarship offers from 28 schools, choosing to stay close to home and sign with Georgia Tech.
After 2 seasons with the Yellow Jackets, Gibbs transferred to Alabama. Gibbs is an explosive runner and excellent pass-catcher out of the backfield. He should continue to be a big-time playmaker in the NFL.
With the Crimson Tide, Gibbs led the Alabama ground attack with 926 rushing yards, ranking No. 7 in the SEC. He logged 7 touchdowns on his team-high 151 carries.
Gibbs finished second in Crimson Tide single-season history for receptions by a running back with 44 during the 2022 campaign. He posted 444 yards and 3 touchdowns receiving.
For 2022, Gibbs earned second-team All-American recognition (USA TODAY) and second-team All-SEC (AP, Coaches).
Lions get the crown of most jaw-dropping pick of the 2023 NFL Draft thus far by taking Jahmyr Gibbs. Brings major burst to the run game and natural pass catching ability out of the backfield. He should rip plenty of runs like this behind the Lions OL: pic.twitter.com/zdNO3f6Bu6
