It’s clear: Jake Coker is Alabama’s starting quarterback. Nick Saban made that clear last week.
Coker finished 15 of 21 for 213 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the 35-17 win over Alabama. Saban may have had questions on how Coker would handle the start, but seeing that his quarterback took the job and ran with it, Saban is encouraged how his quarterback’s demeanor has changed in a good way.
“Jake has shown a lot of confidence this week,” Saban said, via AL.com. “I think his demeanor has changed a little bit. Anxiety is something that you never want a player to have. You want players to be confident. You don’t want them to worry about things. Worrying is like praying for what you don’t want to happen is the way I always say it. Jake’s a little that way, and I think this game really helped him a lot, and his demeanor was great this week.”
Sometimes all a player needs is confidence, and having a good game and leading your team to victory certainly builds confidence.
“Jake’s a fifth-year senior,” Saban said Thursday. “He’s been in the program here for two years. The guy has really worked hard to improve. I just felt like he deserved the opportunity to play, and I thought he played well in the game. I think it’s helped his confidence tremendously.”
