Jake Fromm discusses tough title game loss, assuming larger leadership role moving forward
Even in a defeat of the most heartbreaking fashion, Georgia true freshman quarterback Jake Fromm remained poised and kept his class in the locker room following the 26-23 National Championship Game loss to Alabama.
Fromm had a solid outing, going 16 of 32 passing for 232 yards and one touchdown against arguably the nation’s best defense, however, he did have two interceptions in the game.
With seniors Nick Chubb and Sony Michel set to depart for the NFL and the future of junior linebacker Roquan Smith uncertain at this time, Fromm projects to be the face of Georgia football for the foreseeable future.
The freshman signal-caller was interviewed in the locker room immediately after the game in a video that was posted on YouTube by Bulldawg Illustrated.
Fromm’s opening comments in the interview:
“Guys played their hearts out tonight and it just wasn’t in the cards for us tonight.”
Did you feel the game slipping away at the end as Alabama got hot on offense?
“At the end of the day, you have to go out there and play the next play. We had a couple bad plays on offense but you go out and play the next play and you just go from there.”
You guys never gave up, talk about fighting until the very end.
“No one in this locker room ever wants to quit, that’s not who we are, that’s not the makeup of this team. We kept fighting to the last minute.”
What does this mean for the future of Georgia football?
“These seniors, Nick, Sony, all the guys on defense, they definitely set a standard of Georgia football, I really want to continue that. Set that standard, set the bar high.”
Thoughts on playing in a game of this level?
“The atmosphere was unbelievable but at the end of the day, it’s just another football game against another really good opponent. At the end of the day, you go out and make the plays.”
