Jamon Dumas-Johnson admitted Tuesday night that Georgia players have found motivation for this week against Florida. And for him, it comes from before he was even on Georgia’s roster.
“The rivalry means everything to Coach Smart, the team, the people last year, even 2 years ago,” the inside linebacker said. “We still go off about that, how we lost in 2020. So we still have a chip on our shoulders going into this game. It means a lot to us, so we’re still trying to play for the seniors that lost in that 2020, still have that chip on our shoulders.”
Georgia otherwise has won 4 of the last 5 in the series and is a prohibitive favorite in this week’s meeting in Jacksonville, as the betting line opened at 22 points.
Asked about trash talking in the rivalry, Dumas-Johnson said Georgia players do the talking between whistles.
“We don’t do the talking,” he said. “We let our pads talk for us.”
Asked about Kirby Smart’s halftime speech that was leaked last season, Dumas-Johnson said he agreed with it and that “we have to go get it. … I felt him in that video.”
