Jeff Traylor has come up with a creative idea to motivate players to play in bowl games.
The UT-San Antonio coach shared at the Texas High School Coaches Association convention that college football leaders should consider pairing name, image and likeness with bowl payouts, so that $10,000 is at stake.
“That’ll get their asses to play,” Traylor said.
Traylor, who was a well-known high school coach in East Texas before taking the UTSA job, has led the Roadrunners to a 19-7 record the last 2 seasons, including a 12-2 mark last season.
Are bowls still a reward? UTSA coach Jeff Traylor said “let’s go crazy” like NIL and pay $10,000 to the winning team and the loser gets none.

Traylor, near the end of last season, agreed to a contract extension through the 2031 season.
A native of Gilmer, Texas, Traylor spent 15 years coaching Gilmer High School before joining Charlie Strong’s staff at Texas as an assistant Texas in 2015. He led Gilmer to 3 state titles. He spent 3 seasons as an assistant at SMU and Arkansas under Chad Morris before he replaced Frank Wilson in December 2019 at UTSA.
