The NCAA approved a 1-time, penalty-free transfer rule on Wednesday evening, but before that became official, Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt was asked about it.
Pruitt held a press conference to discuss the first day of Tennessee’s Early Signing Period, but gave a good answer when asked about the transfer rule.
As you can see below, he said he’s in favor of it, citing changing circumstances in the college football world as a reason:
#Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt still all-in on the potential one-time free transfer rule: I’m definitely in favor of it. If a young man signs somewhere and the circumstances around him change and it’s not his fault, why punish him for that? Why does that make sense?

Pruitt also cited his past as a transfer as a reason why he supports the rule:
#Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt: I might be a little different than most coaches [on the one-time free transfer rule], but there’s a reason for that. I was a transfer myself. I understand it.

How will the new rule impact college sports? We’re already seeing an increase in players entering the transfer portal. We’ll see if that jumps even more now with the one-time transfer rule in place.
