There’s no mistaking that loud, booming voice overheard at Tennessee practice this spring, it’s offensive coordinator Jim Chaney coaching up his unit on Rocky Top.
Chaney is back in Knoxville for his second stint and working for his third head coach at Tennessee after a wildly successful run as Georgia’s offensive coordinator under Kirby Smart. With Tennessee returning nearly every meaningful offensive player from last season, the Volunteers are expecting big things from the unit this season and considering the wealth of experience Chaney brings coaching and calling plays in the SEC, he may be the most suited assistant in the nation to get that out of his unit.
The players are already buying into his message with his first spring camp back in Knoxville halfway complete.
“I love his offense, I love (Chaney’s) energy, he’s just a great coach,” Jauan Jennings said on Wednesday. “Not too much different in what he’s bringing, Pruitt has already laid down a blueprint for what we want to accomplish here at the University of Tennessee and we are going to do it.”
Jennings wasn’t the only one to praise the Chaney and the program’s new-look offensive staff as the team’s starting quarterback is also fired up about the new direction on offense for Tennessee.
“I think this staff is great,” Jarrett Guarantano added on Wednesday. “Everything that we are doing, whether it’s Coach Chaney, Coach Weinke, or Coach Tee — all offensive coaches, I think we are on the same page this year and I think we are all working toward the same common goal.”
