Texas A&M is looking for big things from prized redshirt freshman wide receiver Demond Demas.
After playing in just a handful of games and failing to record any stats in 2020, the former 5-star recruit was thought to be a possible transfer in the offseason, rumors he pointedly denied on Twitter in January. Then, in March, he was arrested and then suspended following a marijuana charge.
As the Aggies open fall camp in preparation for their season opener against Kent State on September 4, Demas is set to be a prime target in the passing game. But head coach Jimbo Fisher revealed that he had suffered a foot injury suffered during the summer and is working to get back on the field sooner rather than later. Demas was spotted on an exercise bike during the first day of fall practice.
“[He] had a foot injury that he had this summer, legit,” Fisher said. “He’s worked hard, had great grades, [and has] been busting his tail…He had a sprained foot that he hurt running this summer just in a running drill…He’ll definitely be back.”
Demas is set to join a pass-catching corps that already includes Ainias Smith, Chase Lane and Jalen Wydermyer, and, at least for now, it doesn’t sound as if his foot injury will be serious enough for him to miss substantial time on the playing field.
