Jimbo Fisher holds Fadil Diggs in high regard, and the rising sophomore is trying to up his game after a season in which he appeared in 12 games, made a sack and collected 9 tackles. Even though he’s a sophomore, Diggs is entering his third season in the program.

“Really good leader,” Fisher said. “He is a guy that works, says ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir.’ He’s always helping the young guys and is a great example for them as far how to go about your business on a daily basis as far as work ethic, technique, toughness, battle through things. I think he’s doing an excellent job. He’s a great example of how you want to play … Can’t say enough good things about him.”

As for Diggs, he’s compartmentalized fall camp.

“We’re taking it a day at a time,” he said. “We’re worried about today’s practice. The talk in the locker room is not about Sam Houston. We talk about today’s practice and how we can get better as a team.”

As for the position, the defensive linemen are flexible.

“In our room, we don’t label ourselves as one position,” he said. We just play defense. If the coaches decide to move us around, we’re going to get the job done to the best of our ability.”

About Saturday’s scrimmage, Diggs said the players discuss it as an opportunity, and like it’s a game, just like they treat practice. As they continue to get ready for the season, Diggs showed how he’s becoming a leader by complimenting the freshmen defensive linemen.

“They work hard every day, and I’ve noticed the more we’ve gotten into camp that their confidence has shot up,” Diggs said, per TexAgs. “That’s great for them, and those young guys are going to be special.”
