Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M had to deal with a weather delay, but in the end, the Aggies prevailed over Sam Houston, 31-0.
Haynes King was 20-for-31 passing for 364 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, as the Aggies overcame a slow start. Fisher said King played a “solid game” in the win.
“Any win is a good win. Got a win, got a shutout,” Fisher said. “The guys played hard, and I thought the defense was outstanding in the game.”

Here are other comments from Fisher:

- In the first half, we didn’t play well at all.
- A lot of young players saw the field. We have to get better each week. We have a great opponent coming in next week in App State, and we have to keep developing in everything we do.
- We didn’t get Achane going, but it’s not his fault. Up front, we’ve got to be better blocking.”
- Chris Marshall and Evan Stewart made critical catches and noted their ability to get yards after catch.
- On QB Haynes King: “We don’t need to have those two picks, but he made some plays with his legs and had a solid football game.”
- Fisher said during the weather delay they were keeping the players off their phones and having meetings with them, making little adjustments to the game plan throughout.
- Fisher said he may have played as many freshmen as he’s ever played today.
- Fisher said a lot of the problems with the run game was SHSU’s twists and stunts up front. The timing and communication for the blocking wasn’t there in the first half.
- On Haynes King: “I thought the game speed, I thought he did a really nice job. … That’s a solid performance and he can play better than that. He threw the ball accurately down field.”
