The San Francisco 49ers traded up to No. 3 in the 2021 NFL Draft. There was buzz that they might take Alabama QB Mac Jones there, but instead, they went with Trey Lance out of North Dakota State.

Well, fast forward a few weeks and Jones is the starter for the New England Patriots, playing well. Meanwhile, Jimmy Garoppolo is still the starter in San Francisco.

Appearing on College Football Live on ESPN on Tuesday, legendary 49ers QB Joe Montana said that he would have taken Jones over Lance if he were running the 49ers:

That’s obviously some high praise for Jones. And, Brett Greenberg, who sent the above tweet, is absolutely right — Alabama should use this as recruiting material.

Not that Nick Saban and company need any additional help on the recruiting trails these days.
