Joel Klatt placed Dillon Gabriel at No. 4 on his list of current Heisman Trophy frontrunners.

Gabriel led Oklahoma to a 34-30 win over Texas in the Red River Rivalry to move the Sooners to 6-0. Gabriel, who finished with 398 all-purpose yards (285 passing/113 rushing) led a last-minute touchdown drive as he found Nic Anderson in the end zone with 15 seconds to go in regulation.

After a 6-7 record in Brent Venables’ 1st season in 2022, the Sooners are once again among the nation’s best thanks to Gabriel.

“He never waits. He never holds on to the football. It’s a big reason why, late in that game against Texas, that last series was more of the same. Ball out, ball out,” Klatt said. “He’s playing so well. He’s making quick decisions. He’s operating really well, and that’s a big reason why they’re having success, and they’re undefeated and right now sitting in that leader’s spot in the Big 12.”

Oklahoma has an open week before it faces Gabriel’s former team, UCF, on Oct. 21.
