Joel Klatt was in Ames this week on the call with Gus Johnson for the big Cy-Hawk game that Iowa State won, 16-13. It was one of the biggest games in Week 2, as there weren’t nearly as many games as Week 1 with national implications.

The only game featuring ranked teams was Michigan at Oklahoma, a game the Sooners won 24-13. There wasn’t a ton of movement from last week, but the Sooners move into Klatt’s top 10 to give the SEC 4 teams receiving mentions.

Here’s Klatt’s top 10 after Week 2:

  1. Ohio State
  2. LSU
  3. Oregon
  4. Penn State
  5. Georgia
  6. Texas
  7. Miami
  8. Florida State
  9. Notre Dame
  10. Oklahoma

LSU remained the highest ranked team in the SEC, as the Tigers knocked off Louisiana Tech, 23-7. It wasn’t quite the performance they put together in Week 1, but the Tigers are for real this year. Georgia hasn’t put together a dominating performance yet in 2025, but a huge matchup is looming in Knoxville against Tennessee next week in a game that will be on College GameDay.

While some of the hype for Texas may have disappeared after the season opening loss to Ohio State, the Longhorns got back on track with a 38-7 victory against San Jose State.

Oregon moved up a spot from after delivering a 69-3 win against Oklahoma State. The loss for Cowboys coach Mike Gundy was the worst loss he has experienced since being the head guy in Stillwater.

The only team to fall out of Klatt’s top 10 from last week was Clemson. The Tigers lost in Week 1 to LSU, and then were in big trouble on Saturday against Troy. The Tigers were down 16-0 late in the first half, but scored the final 27 points to secure the win.

Tennessee and Alabama were included in the “Almost” section by Klatt. Here’s the tweet from Klatt:
