Oklahoma took a 21-7 lead over Michigan with just over 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

Quarterback John Mateer got the Sooners into the end zone with a 10-yard run, capping off a 5 play, 51-yard drive that was anything but usual.

Mateer nearly threw an interception earlier in the drive — his line-drive pass was tipped twice by a Michigan defensive back before it ultimately fell harmlessly to the turf. Facing a 3rd and long on the next play, Mateer wiggled out of the pocket and found Isaiah Sategna downfield for a huge play to extend Oklahoma‘s drive.

Two plays later, the Sooners were in the end zone again as Mateer did the honors himself. This was his second rushing touchdown of the game:

Oklahoma is seeking to earn what would arguably be the biggest win of the Brent Venables era so far. The Sooners have largely struggled in big games since Venables took over, but are in position to start a winning streak at the beginning of his fourth campaign at the helm.

Oklahoma is 1-0 all-time against Michigan entering Saturday night’s contest.
