The Washington Redskins have several former Alabama standouts on their roster. Now, those former Crimson Tide players have a new coach — Ron Rivera.
Jonathan Allen — a former Alabama defensive lineman — sounds like he’s a big fan of Rivera’s thus far.
During an appearance on “The Kevin Sheehan Show” on WTEM in Washington this week, Allen explained that Rivera’s system and structure reminds him of his Alabama days (via AL.com):
“It seems very business-like,” Allen said. “What you see is what you get, and I’m excited about that. It reminds me a lot of Alabama, some of the things they’re saying and the messages they’re trying to get across to the players, so I’m super-excited.
“I don’t want to promise anything to anybody, because at the end of the day, we have to go out and do it on the field, but I’m very excited about what this team can do moving into the 2020 season.”
He added that some of the things Rivera says remind him of Saban:
“When I hear him talk, I can definitely see the military side of him coming out, and I love that aspect,” Allen said. “That’s something I always felt coach Saban had. I just always gravitated toward those type of coaching styles, those kind of people. I love it.”
That’s high praise for Rivera. Will he be able to help the Redskins turn things around? We’ll start finding out this season.
