Josh Dobbs cites ‘simple physics’ to explain his Week 2 rushing TD

Josh Dobbs has long been known for his academic background as an aerospace engineer at Tennessee. Dobbs recently had his worlds collide, as he had the opportunity to offer a scientific explanation for his Week 2 touchdown run.

Dobbs has been filling in as QB1 for the Arizona Cardinals while Kyler Murray continues to recover from a knee injury. In Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, Dobbs had an impressive 23-yard rushing score.

The former Tennessee standout told reporters Tuesday that it was just “simple physics” that took him into the endzone. He focused on the decision-making inside the 5-yard line.

“You have to try to slow down for a second to figure out what the defender’s gonna do, then that’s going to make my decision on how I’m going to get into the endzone,” Dobbs said. “Once you stay high, you have to initiate it. It’s like simple physics, right? A body in motion stays in motion. You got to apply more force than the opposite force coming at you. So we’re able to do that and get in the endzone.”

Dobbs has been playing professionally since 2017. This is his first season with extensive opportunities as a starting quarterback. So far this season, Dobbs is 42-of-61 passing (68.9% complete) for 360 yards and 1 touchdown.

Murray will be out for at least 2 more weeks. Plenty of Vols fans will be looking forward to seeing Dobbs make the most of the opportunity.
