Josh Heupel gives out game balls to key players after big win over Syracuse
Tennessee took care of business on Saturday afternoon, beating Syracuse 45-26 in Atlanta.
The Vols had high and low points on both sides of the ball, but ultimately came away with a well-earned victory. After the game, Tennessee coach Josh Heupel awarded game balls to a few key players.
One went to linebacker Jeremiah Telander, who hauled in a massive interception to begin the second half. Nate Robinson, who forced a fumble that Tennessee returned for a touchdown in the first half, was also awarded a game ball. Colton Hood picked up that loose ball and took it back for a touchdown, so he got a game ball, too.
Heupel didn’t give out any game balls to offensive players in the video below, but the Vols’ were pretty good on that side of the ball as well. Joey Aguilar had a strong debut for Tennessee as he threw for 247 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. On the ground, Star Thomas and DeSean Bishop both averaged north of 7 yards per carry.
Heupel was in good spirits when talking to his team after the win.
“[That] was fun, wasn’t it?” Heupel said. “I love it. Hey, all we’re trying to do is be the best team every Saturday we step on the field. That’s it. That’s the beginning of our journey, we get one more next week. Good teams, they keep getting [better]. Great teams don’t make the same mistake twice.”
Tennessee is set to host East Tennessee State in Week 2.
