The No. 12 Tennessee Volunteers have gotten out to a 4-1 start to the 2025 season, and they’ve done so in large part without one of their top defensive players in junior defensive back Jermod McCoy.

McCoy suffered a torn ACL back in January while training, and has been working his way back from the serious knee injury with an estimated return to action expected to come at some point this season.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel spoke with the media on Monday and said that McCoy is doing a “great job” in his rehab.

“Jermod continues to do a great job in his rehab with our medical staff, strength staff,” Heupel said, adding that any reports that McCoy was targeting a particular game for his return were “unfair.”

This was in reference to some speculation circling that McCoy could be back this weekend for the Vols’ matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Tennessee has faired well so far without McCoy in the fold, but his return is certainly something that Heupel and his staff are looking forward to.

That may not be this weekend, but it could be soon based on Heupel’s comments on his rehab progression.
