Josh Heupel shares thoughts on Tennessee’s offense, defense in first half vs. Bowling Green

The Tennessee Volunteers jumped out to a 14-0 lead over Bowling Green on Thursday night and it looked like they were off to the races.
However, Josh Heupel’s offense quickly hit a few speed bumps, failing to score any additional points in the first half, leading to a 14-6 halftime lead over the Falcons.
Before heading into the locker room, Heupel said he wants to clean up the Vols’ execution on offense:
“Just a couple execution things,” he said. “We weren’t on the same page. Little bit of throw and catch. Couple combinations in our run game we’ve got to clean up and get back to executing.”
As far as the defense goes, he said he was happy with the Vols keeping the Falcons out of the end zone, but he wants to see improvement defending bootlegs:
“A lot of really good things. I didn’t think we handled their boot game really well in the second quarter there,” he said. “We’ve got to do a better job of handling that.”
We’ll see if the Vols can show some more consistency in the second half. For now, though, the fast-paced offense might be taking its toll on the defense. It’ll be interesting to watch the time of possession battle in the second half.
