Josh Heupel and Tennessee will likely avoid the peak environment at Tiger Stadium this week because the game at LSU is set for an 11 a.m. local time start. But the coach believes the Vols are in good shape in that department.
“Handling crowd noise is important for the quarterback, but it’s really important for all 11,” Heupel said on the SEC coaches media teleconference “… We’ve been able to, since Hendon’s been our starting quarterback, to handle it in a pretty positive way.”
Heupel then discussed the LSU series, and while the teams have played 3 times since 2005, that was the last year the Vols traveled to Baton Rouge.
“I haven’t heard that much about it, to be honest. Obviously, as this league has changed and broken up into divisions, some games haven’t happened. … This is a big game for us because it’s the next one,” Heupel said. “I’m going to be honest, that’s something I haven’t really thought about in a long time. … I’m sure our league will do what’s best for the entirety of it.”
Neither starting quarterback in this game has thrown an interception this season.
“Tells you that they’re seeing things and operating really efficiently,” Heupel said. “Telling you they’re being accurate with the football. … Obviously in this game, turnovers will be huge.”
