Josh Jacobs has made a solid contribution to Alabama’s case for the “RBU” title. The former Crimson Tide standout recently weighed in on the best running backs in Crimson Tide history.

Appearing on The Pivot podcast, Jacobs shared his 4 selections for the “Mount Rushmore” of Alabama running backs.

“Who’s the rushing leader? Shaun Alexander, I think’s the rushing leader, so you got to put Shaun Alexander,” Jacobs said.

As pointed out by AL.com’s Mark Inabinett, Alexander’s status as leader is complicated. By the record books, Najee Harris is Alabama’s all-time rushing leader. Harris, though, gets to include bowl stats in his career total. If bowl stats were added to Alexander’s numbers, Alexander would be the program’s official leader.

“Derrick Henry, obviously, in there,” Jacobs continued. “See, where it gets tricky is like: Do you put Trent or do you put – I would say Trent Richardson. You can throw Trent Richardson in there. And I’ll probably say Eddie Lacy. …

“I forgot about Mark (Ingram). Definitely Mark. Definitely Mark as my fourth.”

Ingram said on the podcast that he wouldn’t consider anyone who played in the 2020s. His 4 selections all played in a window of 1996-2015. Considering that period includes Alexander and the 2 running backs to win the Heisman Trophy (Ingram, Henry), it’s hard to argue with Jacobs’ selections.
