Kalen DeBoer and Alabama trailed South Carolina 22-14 with 10 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.

Nearly 8 minutes later, Ty Simpson capped a 14-play drive with a short touchdown pass to Germie Bernard to make it 22-22 after the ensuing 2-point conversion. Then, after a Gamecocks fumble, Bernard scored from 25 yards out as the Crimson Tide escaped with a 29-22 win.

That’s now 7 wins in a row for the Tide after dropping their season opener against Florida State.

“We didn’t separate ourselves the way I’d like. In fact, we fell behind,” DeBoer said after the game. “But knowing that we scored a lot of points over the course of the year … all you need is one touchdown drive.”

That one touchdown drive came late in the game to push the Tide over the line. They’re now 7-1 with three straight home games against LSU, Oklahoma, and FCS Eastern Illinois coming up before the Iron Bowl against Auburn.

Now, a College Football Playoff berth is well in play for Alabama.

“It’s the resiliency piece. It’s ‘leave it all on the football field and have no regrets.’ And that’s the way I want our guys living, and I want our guys playing,” Kalen DeBoer said.
