Kalen DeBoer knows Alabama’s College Football Playoff case isn’t cut and dry.
The Crimson Tide just completed a roller coaster of a regular season, with plenty of ups, like that late September victory over Georgia and the November win at LSU. It also had plenty of downs, like the October loss at Vanderbilt and the November stinker at Oklahoma.
DeBoer doesn’t know if the Crimson Tide will be Playoff bound in his first season in Tuscaloosa. But on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, DeBoer said he knows exactly who his team is, even if his team is far from perfect.
“There’s a committee that’s got some tough decisions, we all get that. There’s so many great teams in college football,” said DeBoer. “But I know from within … we’re one of the best 12 teams, the way we see it. That’s not egotistical, it’s not arrogant, but we understand who we are.”
Since Alabama will be forced to watch as Championship Weekend plays out and has no control over anything, DeBoer said it’s about taking care of the little things this week.
“We have to be ready, so this week it’s about the workouts, it’s about taking care of the things that are away from football, to make sure there’s no distractions so when we get our opportunity, kind of reflecting on our strengths of who we are, offensively, defensively, special teams,” said DeBoer.

On Sunday, when the dust has settled from the championship games, DeBoer will find out if his team will get that opportunity to play for a national title despite a 3-loss regular season.
