Kalen DeBoer on Alabama’s narrow win over South Carolina: ‘It ain’t going to be pretty all the time’

Kalen DeBoer and Alabama got a big win on Saturday, as the Crimson Tide overcame a late 8-point deficit to pull out the 29-22 victory. It wasn’t the sharpest performance by the Crimson Tide this year. They turned the ball over twice, and were able to rush for only 72 yards on 23 carries.

However, that is what separates good teams from a championship team, having the ability to win even when it isn’t your best performance.

After the game, DeBoer talked just about that, saying the team’s maturity this year compared to last season has improve in a big way.

“It doesn’t matter how you win, it ain’t going to be pretty all the time,” Kalen DeBoer told reporters. “Especially when you go on the road in an SEC game. Going up against Coach Beamer, a well coached team. We knew they were going to fight. It was a tough environment here. I’m just proud of how the guys hung in there for four quarters. I don’t know if this is something that we could have done at the beginning of the year. Great win for us.”

This isn’t the old BCS style where teams had to win as well as get a lot of style points. With 12 teams making it to the College Football Playoff, just getting the win is so important. The Crimson Tide entered this game with wins in four straight weeks against ranked SEC teams, showing they can take on and win against the best in the country.

Alabama will be on a bye next week, and DeBoer said in the press conference that it couldn’t come at a better time for the team.

Alabama will then host LSU in Week 11.
