Kalen DeBoer says he won’t let himself ‘get comfortable’ at Alabama

Kalen DeBoer and Alabama are 7-1 entering a bye week after beating South Carolina 29-22 last Saturday. In Year 2 under DeBoer, the team is in a much better position entering November than it was a year ago.
Last season, the Crimson Tide went 9-4, ending a streak of 16 consecutive seasons of winning at least 10 games. This year got off to a slow start, as the Crimson Tide were dominated 31-17 in their season opener. And DeBoer found himself in the crosshairs as a result.
However, the Tide have been rolling since, and they have the look of a legitimate contender in both the SEC and the College Football Playoff.
While things are going well right now, DeBoer isn’t going to let himself start feeling comfortable.
“I’m not going to let myself get comfortable,” Kalen DeBoer told Rob Stone on The Triple Option podcast this week. “I think that’s the way you’ve got to just keep attacking it. That’s the way it’s always been. The pressure … that I’ve put on myself has always been so great and so high.”
One thing that DeBoer pointed out was that he is enjoying Tuscaloosa, especially with his family loving it so much.
“I love living here, though. My family loves it,” DeBoer said. “It’s fun when what you’re really passionate about is a priority and really important to the university, the people, your alumni. Getting the texts from Mark (Ingram) and other guys that they’re proud, that means the world to me because that’s what I do this for.”
Alabama and Texas A&M are the only 2 SEC teams unbeaten in conference play, but 4 other teams have only 1 loss. DeBoer knows if his team gets complacent and satisfied, then all of their work over the first 9 weeks of the season could be undone.
