Former Alabama TE Kedrick James has a new college football home.

James entered the NCAA transfer portal July 12, and according to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, the former 4-star high school recruit will transfer to SMU.

Losing James was a big deal for Alabama, because the Tide’s TE depth is rather thin. James was suspended for Alabama’s two College Football Playoff games against Oklahoma and Clemson. He appeared in 10 games during his Alabama career, including five in 2018. He may have potentially started for Alabama at some point in 2019.

The 6-foot-5 James is originally from Waco, Texas; so, heading to Dallas is closer to home.

Nick Saban had mentioned that Alabama may look to add some TE depth from a graduate transfer, but that hasn’t happened yet.
