Former Alabama quarterback and Raiders’ great Kenny Stabler was nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016, the football shrine announced on Wednesday.

Stabler recently passed away peacefully July 9 while listening to Sweet Home Alabama after a battle with colon cancer.

Stabler played in three seasons under Coach Bear Bryant from 1965-67, before going on to have a great NFL career and become a four-time Pro Bowler. He also led the Oakland Raiders to the 1977 Super Bowl title.

Stabler was nominated by the Seniors Committee, which considers the Hall of Fame qualifications for players who have been retired for at least 25 years. This will be the first time Stabler has been nominated by the Seniors Committee.
