Kentucky basketball moves up in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology projection
Kentucky basketball just proved how much ground you can make up in a single week.
Last week, the Wildcats were on the outside-looking-in on Joe Lunardi’s bracketology projection for ESPN. As of Tuesday morning, Kentucky is comfortably in the field as a No. 8 seed — and rising.
In Lunardi’s latest projection, Kentucky is matched up with No. 9-seeded Pittsburgh in the New York regional. A win would likely pit the Wildcats against top-seeded Purdue in the Round of 32.
Kentucky’s rise up Lunardi’s seed list is due to a recent hot streak. The Wildcats went 2-0 last week, beating Mississippi State and Tennessee. The win over the Bulldogs came in Starkville — an impressive victory over a team that could be tournament-bound. But that triumph over the Vols, who are in contention for a No. 1 seed, is potentially crucial for Kentucky.
The Wildcats are now 18-9 on the season and 9-5 in SEC play. There are 4 games left on UK’s regular season slate, with 3 of them coming against NCAA Tournament-hopefuls.
That leaves plenty of opportunity for Kentucky to keep improving its résumé ahead of Selection Sunday. The SEC Tournament next month should also give the Wildcats a chance to move further up the bracket.
