Kentucky mascot seemingly gives up on UK football team amid blowout loss to Georgia
Kentucky wasn’t given much chance to win or even be in the game on Saturday afternoon as it made the trip to Athens to face a Georgia team that was really good and really upset after last week’s loss to Alabama.
That wasn’t a good combination for Kentucky and, predictably, the Wildcats lost to the Bulldogs without much of a fight, falling 35-14 to drop to 2-3 on the season and 0-3 in the SEC. It’s already been a long season for Mark Stoops‘ team, but usually, even in a sad situation, the team mascot is the one last line of defense trying to pump fans up and show school spirit.
But it seems even that was in short order for Kentucky’s mascot, who was spotted during the first half lying down on the job, you might say. Georgia had the ball deep in its own territory and executed a running play while the UK Wildcat mascot sat in that end zone, calmly watching instead of wildly cheering. When the play was over, the mascot finally rose to its feet and showed the same frustration that Stoops’ team was showing all afternoon in the loss.
Kentucky would score a late touchdown to make the final score look a little more respectable, but that likely wasn’t going to change the mood in the postgame locker room nor the mood of the mascot on Saturday.
Georgia improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in the SEC with a victory that was so easy that Kentucky’s mascot was willing to take a little time off during the onslaught.
