Jordan Wright is expected to join Chris Rodriguez as Kentucky players who are suspended for the season opener against Miami-Ohio.
Wright has played in 42 career games with 12 starts, and 106 career tackles with 15.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 12 pass breakups, 4 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries and 6 quarterback hurries. Last year, he appeared in 9 games, including 7 starts.
Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio reported that Wright, the senior outside linebacker, would miss the game because of an off-the-field issue. Friday afternoon Jones revealed that Rodriguez is expected to be suspended “either three or four games” to start the season. The final determination will be made this week. The suspension of Wright is related to Rodriguez’s non-DUI related off-the-field issue.
Wright is known for producing momentum-swinging plays throughout his career, and he’s scored 2 defensive touchdowns in his career.
In the Citrus Bowl win over Iowa, Wright had a career-high 10 tackles, and to continue that theme of big plays, he tipped a pass that led to D’Eryk Jackson’s interception.
