Kevin Sumlin’s Texas A&M squad was taken down 42-27 by No. 14 Auburn on Saturday in College Station.
It wasn’t a good look for the Aggies. They have now lost an abundance of home games against the SEC West in the past two seasons.
As Yahoo! Sports’ Dr. Saturday pointed out on Twitter, Texas A&M hasn’t beaten an SEC West opponent at Kyle Field since Oct. 3, 2015. That’s 763 days for anyone who’s counting.
A&M was pummeled 35-14 by Mississippi State just last week. But despite back-to-back excruciating losses, the Aggies’ head coach hasn’t been afraid to face the media.
Here’s what Sumlin had to say at his press conference after the game:
Sumlin: Last minute and 36 seconds … [allowed] 14 points during that time. That was a game-changer. Even with that, still a half to play.

Sumlin: When [Starkel] got the broken ankle, it takes some time. Nick’s rusty but he’s doing okay. Was [in] pain today but okay.
— TexAgs (@TexAgs) November 4, 2017
Sumlin essentially said Nick Starkel has earned the starting quarterback job.

Sumlin: Starkel has healed a lot more. He was our starter to start the year and today he played pretty good. He’s earned back his spot.

Sumlin: “I think the way things were going, it was time for a change.”
— Battalion Sports (@battsports) November 4, 2017
Sumlin on blocked punt: “It wasn’t anything we hadn’t seen, it was just a lack of execution… that can’t happen.”
— Battalion Sports (@battsports) November 4, 2017
Sumlin on struggles at home vs. SEC West: I don’t know the answer but it’s certainly probably the elephant in the room.
— TexAgs (@TexAgs) November 4, 2017
Sumlin: We’ve been up & down this year. We’ve shown some good things & some not so good things. Have nucleus of really good young players.
— TexAgs (@TexAgs) November 4, 2017
Sumlin said starting DBs Antonio Howard and Charles Oliver were out today because of injuries.
— Ben Baby (@Ben_Baby) November 4, 2017
Sumlin on moving Armani Watts to nickel: “It moved some guys out of the middle of the field and we gave up some big plays.”
— Battalion Sports (@battsports) November 4, 2017
Sumlin: “There was one time I looked out there and everyone in the secondary was a true freshman except for Armani [Watts].”
— Battalion Sports (@battsports) November 4, 2017
Sumlin: It is [frustrating]. We’re not going to live in that world. We’re going to live in next week’s world. Can’t only look at next week.
