South Carolina announces passing of former AD, Gamecock Hall of Fame member King Dixon
We have some unfortunate news to share from Columbia as South Carolina has announced the passing of former Gamecock athletic director, King Dixon. He was 83.
Dixon served as the school’s AD from 1988 until 1992. Before starting a career in sports administration, Dixon was a running back for the Gamecocks from 1956-1958. During his senior season in Columbia, Dixon was a team captain. He was named to the school’s Lettermen’s Hall of Fame in 1991.
Following his playing career, Dixon joined the United States Marine Corps where he served for 22 years.
While running the South Carolina athletics program, Dixon helped the Gamecocks find a home in the Southeastern Conference back in 1992.
Upon learning of the news, South Carolina President Bob Caslen issued the following comment on Twitter.
