Georgia coach Kirby Smart met with reporters for his weekly press conference on Monday afternoon in Athens.
Smart was asked about a controversial moment from Georgia‘s win over Auburn in Week 7. Smart appeared to attempt to call timeout before the play clock expired against the Tigers on Saturday night. However, as the timeout was about to be granted, Smart lobbied to on-field officials that he was just trying to alert them to an Auburn defender who was clapping before the snap. Officials ultimately reset the game clock and did not charge Georgia with a timeout.
On Monday, Smart said he hadn’t spoken to anyone from the SEC office about the incident and stood by the explanation he gave on Saturday night.
“I talked to no one, SEC-office wise,” Smart said. “And I stand by what I talked about after the game. Worried about Ole Miss.”
For reference he’s video of Smart’s interaction with officials:
Georgia ended up missing a field goal on that drive, so it didn’t do much to impact the final score of its 20-10 win over Auburn. The Bulldogs have now won 9 consecutive games in its rivalry series against the Tigers.
Georgia will host Ole Miss on Saturday.
