Although rumors have been flying about a potential return to coaching for Nick Saban, Georgia coach Kirby Smart isn’t buying it.

Smart, who worked under Saban at Alabama from 2007-15, said he doesn’t believe Saban will return to the sidelines. He acknowledged it would be “good for the game,” but suggested that he wouldn’t be able to leave his family for another run as a coach.

“Nah, I don’t believe it will happen,” Smart said on 680 The Fan. “But I certainly know he would be good for the game. I know he loves being with his grandkids. He’s not gonna get off that couch without Miss Terry letting him. That’s one of those hard things — he’s got to bypass her first.”

Later on in the morning, Smart told reporters that Miss Terry would ultimately make the call on whether or not Saban comes out of retirement. The Georgia coach also joked that he offered Will Muschamp’s analyst job to Saban but said he was “overqualified.”

“Make no mistake about it, the boss at home [Miss Terry] is going to make that call for him, not him,” Smart said.

Smart also said he and Saban still talk from time to time about defensive ideas. Even in retirement, Saban has stayed active in the college football world via his role on College GameDay.
